With its unique double-curved armrests and elegant interplay between soft upholstery and the carefully hand-polished frame, it’s no wonder that Monarch Chair designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen in 1944 was inspired by the royalty of the butterfly world. Yet this pioneer of Danish modernism also took a functionalist approach, insisting that form must complement function and carefully engineering VLA61’s beautifully crafted proportions to be so comfortable that sitting in it feels like an embrace.
