New York-based Smart Design — the studio behind decades of ergonomic product work — takes the classic lantern form and builds in two modes: head down for shared, diffused light across a surface; head up for direct, focused illumination. No switches, no attachments. The swivel and a large side knob do the work. A handle keeps it portable. Utilitarian logic in a friendly shape — the task light that doesn't announce itself as one. Made to order in California from sugarcane-derived plant polymer.
